This monograph, edited by Ilaria Bernardi, presents the first systematic and complete examination of the career of the Italian artist Marinella Senatore, from her debut in the early 2000s until the present day.

This publication coincides with the tenth anniversary of SOND - The School of Narrative Dance, the nomadic school founded by the artist in 2012 and for which she is most renowned around the world.

Trained in music, fine arts and film, her practice is characterized by public participation, initiating a dialogue between history, culture and social structures. Rethinking the role of the artist as author and the public as recipient, Senatore's work merges forms of protest, learning theatre, oral histories, vernacular forms, protest dance and music, public ceremonies, civil rituals and mass events, reflecting on the political nature of collective formations and their impact on the social history of places and communities.

This publication reconstructs the span of Senatore's personal and creative life through an interweaving of biographical information and relevant historical research, and a lavish selection of the artist's works, thereby making it a new and unique contribution to the literature on the artist.

Questa monografia, curata da Ilaria Bernardi, presenta il primo esame sistematico e completo dell'attività dell'artista italiana Marinella Senatore, dal suo esordio nei primi anni Duemila a oggi.

La pubblicazione coincide con i dieci anni della SOND - The School of Narrative Dance, la scuola nomade fondata nel 2012, per la quale l'artista è maggiormente conosciuta internazionalmente.

Formatasi in musica, belle arti e cinema, la sua pratica è caratterizzata dalla partecipazione del pubblico, avviando un dialogo tra storia, cultura e strutture sociali. Ripensando al ruolo dell'artista come autore e del pubblico come destinatario, il lavoro di Senatore fonde forme di protesta, teatro di apprendimento, storie orali, linguaggi vernacolari, danza e musica di protesta, cerimonie pubbliche, riti civili ed eventi di massa, riflettendo sulla natura politica delle formazioni collettive e sul loro impatto sulla storia sociale di luoghi e comunità.

Questa pubblicazione ricostruisce l'arco della vita personale e creativa di Senatore attraverso un intreccio di informazioni biografiche e ricerche storiche rilevanti, e una ricca selezione di sue opere, costituendo così un contributo nuovo e unico alla letteratura a lei dedicata.
